Abandoned NC is a one man project consisting of speculation, exploration, photography, and some amount of historical research.

Basically though, as long as I can remember I have been interested in old buildings, dilapidated farms and the like, but it was only a few years ago with the discovery of Infiltration and UER that I realized that my strange obsession had a name; "urban exploration".
Always one to take and share pictures anyway, I decided my own website was the next logical step since there were apparently no functioning UE group in North Carolina, and so, Abandoned NC was born.

Originally, exploring was one way to learn my way around town. I moved back to Statesville from several years in Europe (military brat) and realized since I hadn't seen the place since I was 4 years old I knew where nothing was. So, I started taking random turns, trying to get lost, and seeing lots of neat things along the way.

I adhere to a motto which is prevalent in the UE community- that being "Take only pictures, leave only footprints." I do not engage in vandalism and certainly do not condone it or any act which would be harmful to even the most forgotten and damaged of places. I have a great respect and admiration for these ruins of our society, and my only desire is to document and experience them first hand, leaving them as they are for anyone who may wish to do so in the future. The only time I will ever bend this rule is if something of worth is in danger of being destroyed and I feel it may be possible to come up with a rightful owner to inform.

I'll go ahead and warn you- I'm really bad about replying in a timely manner and so scatterbrained I don't know who I have and haven't responded to yet, so write me at your own risk.
 
Please, unless you live in the Iredell/Rowan/Wilkes/Alexander county area, don't e-mail me to ask about places to explore on the coast or in the mountains. I'd like to help you, but I don't drive extreme distances very often to explore and know close to nothing about Charlotte, Raleigh, or Durham.
